Automatic filtration of fuel oil in the supply circuit of the MAN 48/60 marine engine. FIL-003 is installed as the fuel oil automatic filter in the supply circuit and is designed to maintain fuel filtration during the automatic back-flushing sequence. The filter is equipped with differential-pressure indication and switches.

The MAN 48/60 Fuel Oil Automatic Filter Element forms part of the fuel-oil supply system identified as FIL-003 (Fuel Oil Automatic Filter, supply circuit) in MAN documentation. The automatic filter is installed in the fuel-oil supply circuit and is designed to operate without significant pressure drop during the flushing sequence. MAN specifies a filter mesh size of 0.010 mm (10 µm absolute) for common-rail injection and 0.034 mm (34 µm absolute) for conventional injection. The applicable filtration specification therefore depends on the installed fuel-injection system. FIL-003 is equipped with differential-pressure indication and switches to monitor filter condition. A bypass arrangement is provided in parallel with the automatic filter. During maintenance of the automatic filter, the bypass can be opened and the fuel can be filtered through the FIL-013 fuel-oil duplex filter, according to the installed system configuration.
