The MAN 48/60 Lube Oil Duplex Filter Element is a filtration component used within the lubricating-oil system of MAN 48/60B marine engines. MAN documentation identifies the duplex filter as FIL-002 and describes it as an indicator filter.

The duplex filter is installed downstream of the lube oil automatic filter and serves as an additional filtration stage. It also protects the engine in case of malfunctions of the lube oil automatic filter.

The exact filter element, filtration characteristics, dimensions and replacement specification depend on the installed filter arrangement and filter manufacturer. The installed filter element and housing should therefore be identified and matched with the applicable MAN 48/60B documentation before ordering or replacement.

Application Notes

In single-main engine plants, the automatic filter can be bypassed during maintenance. MAN states that the lube oil can still be sufficiently filtered by using only the duplex filter in this situation.

Additional Notes

The lube oil duplex filter (FIL-002) is fitted with drain connections equipped with shut-off fittings in both chambers. The drain connections return to the leakage oil collecting tank (T-006). Draining removes dirt accumulated in the filter casing and prevents contamination of the clean oil side of the filter. The filter is equipped with local visual differential pressure indicators and differential pressure switches. The switches are used for pre-alarm and main alarm. Where the lube oil system is equipped with a two-stage automatic filter (FIL-001), installation of the duplex filter can be avoided. The filter design must ensure that no parts of the filter can become loose and enter the engine.

The MAN 48/60 Lube Oil Duplex Filter Element is part of the lubricating-oil filtration system of the MAN 48/60B marine engine and is associated with FIL-002, Lube oil duplex filter, in MAN documentation.
