Indicator filtration of lubricating oil downstream of the main lube-oil automatic filter in the MAN 48/60 marine engine. FIL-002 is installed close to the engine and provides additional protection by filtering the lubricating oil in the event of a malfunction or maintenance of the automatic filter.
Additional Notes
The MAN 48/60 Lube Oil Duplex Filter Element forms part of the lube-oil filtration arrangement identified as FIL-002 (Lube Oil Duplex Filter) in MAN documentation. FIL-002 functions as an indicator filter and is installed downstream of the lube-oil automatic filter, as close as possible to the engine. The duplex arrangement allows one filter chamber to remain in operation while the other chamber can be isolated for manual cleaning or replacement of the filter element. The filter provides additional protection for the engine in case of malfunction or maintenance of the main automatic filter. MAN specifies a 60 µm filter mesh size for FIL-002 in the documented FIL-001/FIL-002 arrangement. If a two-stage automatic filter is installed, the additional duplex filter may be omitted; an additional duplex filter can nevertheless be installed when a higher safety level is required.
