Application Notes

Filtration of starting air within the compressed-air system of the Wärtsilä 32 marine engine. The starting-air filter is installed before the engine starting-air inlet to prevent particles from entering the starting-air equipment. Condensate formation after the water separator can create and loosen abrasive rust from the piping, fittings and receivers. A Y-type strainer with a stainless-steel screen and 400 µm mesh size can be used for this application. The pressure drop should not exceed 20 kPa (0.2 bar) for the engine-specific starting-air consumption under a time span of 4 seconds.
