Sources:
  • Wärtsilä 50DF Product Guide – a16 – 9 September 2016 – Fig. 7-3 “Example of lubricating oil system, with engine driven pumps” (DAAE021746B) and Section 7.3.11 “Safety filter (2F05)”

The Wärtsilä 50DF Lube Oil Safety Filter (2F05) is identified in the Wärtsilä 50DF Product Guide as "Safety filter" in Fig. 7-3 (DAAE021746B) and described in Section 7.3.11. A separate safety filter (2F05) must be installed before the engine unless it is integrated in the automatic filter (2F02). Wärtsilä specifies a duplex filter with steelnet filter elements and a maximum absolute fineness of 60 µm.

Application Notes

The safety filter (2F05) must be installed before the engine unless integrated in the automatic filter (2F02), as described in Section 7.3.11 of the Wärtsilä 50DF Product Guide. Wärtsilä specifies a duplex filter with steelnet filter elements, a maximum absolute fineness of 60 µm, and a design pressure of 1.0 MPa (10 bar). The maximum pressure drop at 50 cSt is 30 kPa for a clean filter and 80 kPa at alarm.

Additional Notes

The safety filter (2F05) is listed alongside the automatic filter (2F02) and suction strainers (2F01, 2F04) in Fig. 7-3 of the Wärtsilä 50DF Product Guide. Wärtsilä specifies an oil viscosity of 50 cSt (SAE 40, VI 95, approx. 63°C) and a design temperature of 100°C for the safety filter. No OEM part number is specified for the safety filter in the reviewed documentation.
